Oleg Deripaska initiated and inspired the Robotics program in Russia.
As part of the educational and competitive programme, children and teenagers aged 8 to 25 years old are taught robotics, mechatronics and programming in resource centers in schools, colleges, technical schools and universities. One of the key objectives of the programme is to stimulate interest in the engineering profession. Only five years after the start of the project 30% of university graduates in technical disciplines began careers as engineers in Russia’s largest companies.
Oleg Deripaska graduated from Moscow State University with a degree in physics.
The Alma Mater project is implementing a number of programmes alongside the university system, in particular, Oleg Deripaska has initiated and provided funds for the establishment of the Moscow School of Economics (MSE - MSU) and the Graduate School of Public Administration (ESAP).
Now the Volnoe Delo Foundation systematically helps the MSU physics department and is involved in innovative programs in the university as a whole.
ALL-RUSSIA SCIENCE FESTIVAL
Volnoe Delo Oleg Deripaska Foundation and Basic Element group have been general strategic partners of the largest sci pop event, the All-Russia Science Festival since 2015. The Festival is held under the aegis of the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU).
All-Russia Science Festival comprises over 70 regions that host the event’s activities at the universities, academic institutions, state scientific centers, scientific hubs, museums, research and innovation centers.
Moscow Science Festival that is a part of the all-Russia events, includes interactive exhibitions in the MSU main library, sci pop events in the Expo Center, renowned scientists’ lectures in the MSU Shuvalov building as well as an entertainment program and fireworks at the Sparrow Hills.
“Education and science should always be accessible for as many people as possible at any age. All-Russia Science Festival contributes to this accessibility as it grows rapidly year by year and gives future scientists and inventors opportunities to learn about new research, listen to the acclaimed professors and make the first steps towards big discoveries.
I’m honored to support Science Festival because such projects are the best way to foster a whole generation of young science-driven people who will eventually make some breakthrough and will stay in Russia’s history.”
Oleg Deripaska, founder of Volnoe Delo Foundation
Volnoe Delo Foundation has a long history of supporting MSU young scientists and students whose scientific research has a big potential. The festival has ideally fit Volnoe Delo -MSU programs as its main goal is to promote science among wide audiences and to make hi-tech attractive for youth.
HIGHER EDUCATION SUPPORT
Among the many projects which are supported by Oleg Deripaska, through his Volnoe Delo Foundation, is not only the regular assistance of Moscow State University, but also the ranking of Russian universities by quality of education, and scholarship programs at four universities in Russia (Moscow State University, Kuban State University, Kuban State Agrarian University and the Moscow Art Theater School).
In addition, since 2011 a program of assistance to regional universities has existed, in particular, the training of archaeologists in the History Department of Kuban State University, as well as close cooperation with KubSAU which trains agricultural specialists.
NEW GENERATION SCHOOL
The Volnoe Delo Foundation has taken part in the New Generation School programme since 2004. Just one year after the entry of the Fund into the project it has been joined by 37 schools from 11 regions of Russia.
The main result of the New Generation School programme is a replicable model of schools with a culture of learning organization. Today this concept is key to the modernisation of the Russian mass school.
Networking between schools in the framework of the New Generation School program is supported by its regional resource centers in Abakan, Krasnoyarsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ust- Ilyimsk, Ust- Labinsk, Chelyabinsk and Yaroslavl.
Computers for schools
Since 2011 “Computers for schools” has been the largest private philanthropic educational project in Russia. The project was started in 2007 by the “Volnoe Delo” Foundation, in partnership with Intel, Microsoft, ASUS as well as regional administrations.
As part of the programme schools are equipped with mobile computer classes. Each student receives a personal netbook and the teacher receives a full-scale laptop computer. A wireless network is set up in every class in order to facilitate student-teacher interaction. Schools are equipped with modern computer hardware and software and electronic educational materials. Teachers develop their e-skills and learn how to apply them in an educational environment.
All the PCs and laptops are equipped with a licensed sofware and the latest educational programms on Russian language, maths, natural history and etc.
The “Computers for schools” programme has had a significant impact on the lives of teachers and students in remote areas. Communities such as the Zireken Township in the Chita region or Zarechniy hutor in Krasnodar region have been provided access to information technologies, for many the very first time.
Having graduated from the Faculty of Physics at the M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University, Oleg Deripaska supports the department and takes part in the creation of new faculties and innovative development programmes.
At the instigation and with the support of Oleg Deripaska, in cooperation with M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University, new faculties at the University have been created including – the Moscow School of Economics (MSE MSU) and The Graduate School of Public Administration (GSPA).
Moscow School of Economics
Higher School of Government Administration at Moscow State University
The Schools have been given a Moscow State University building, fully renovated and equipped library, computer and language classes – complete with state-of the art digital laboratories – a conference hall that allows simultaneous interpreting of up to 4 languages and video conferencing services.
